AquaVac* Ergosan* is incorporated into the diet to strengthen the immune system and enhance the resistance of sea bass to disease, parasites and infection.

AquaVac* Ergosan* is made from a seaweed-based meal blended with specific algine compounds. The active ingredients include special algines and polysaccharides known to strengthen the full range of natural defense systems in fish.

AquaVac* Ergosan* enhances the fish's immune response to vaccination. The response of fish to vaccination will vary according to its health and previous exposure to the disease as well as the specific characteristics of the vaccine.

AquaVac* Ergosan* is intended for use in conjunction with vaccines from the AquaVac* range.

The AquaVac* Oral vaccination strategy employs Ergosan* to improve the level and duration of protection in the fish.

• Effects of Ergosan* on the Immune Response/Immune Function of Rainbow Trout (100kb)
  Work conducted in the department of Zoology, University of Aberdeen under a BBSRC Studentship sponsored by AVL has shown that AquaVac* Ergosan* can have a wide range of effects on the immune system and thereby a stimulatory effect on the immune response when administered intraperitoneally to rainbow trout.     

• Reduction of Mortality caused by Rainbow Trout Fry Syndrome (RTFS) (94kb)
  Trout Farm A has, for the past couple of years, been selling Fingerling rainbow trout to Trout Farm B. Historically, what has been seen is that in the period immediately after transport, elevated mortality has been suffered at Trout Farm B due to RTFS, as a result of the stress on the fish induced by the transport.Trout Farm A, like virtually all hatchery sites, has endemic RTFS, which is treated with disinfection and antibiotic therapy in the normal way. However, it appears impossible to eliminate the disease entirely, and even when healthy fish are transported, in the days post-transport, RTFS outbreaks have occurred in the fish. This is presumably because there are fish within the population which maintain a carrier status.
