New People in Intervet Aquatic Animal Health

20 November 2005

Lene Høgset is a veterinarian who started working as a Customer Support Officer at Intervet Norbio AS in Bergen, Norway in June 2005. Before this, she worked for the Directorate of Fisheries and the Norwegian Food Control Authority for four years as an adviser concerning fish- and seafood-related issues. During her first year after graduating, she worked as a veterinary practitioner in Lapland, Sweden, mainly dealing with pets and production animals. Lene’s main hobby is downhill cycling, and she has won the Norwegian Downhill Cycling Championship every year from 2001 to 2005.

Roar Tomassen is a ‘siviløkonom’ (B.B.A. in Marketing and B.Sc. in Economics) and holds the position of Sales & Marketing Manager at Intervet Norbio AS in Bergen, Norway since October 2004. Before this, he operated as Marketing Director at IntraFish Media and the biggest fisheries newspaper in Norway, Fiskaren. He also has management experience from other global companies and has been teaching for three years at the Norwegian School of Business and Economics. Roar’s hobbies include salmon fishing and staying in shape (in the gym and in the mountains). He also enjoys vintage cars and participates with his own 1964 Corvette in several local and national meets.

María José Birrer was born in 1976 in Viña del Mar, Chile. She grew up in the countryside and became very fond of animals, ending up with a strange mixture of pets, including chickens, spiders, dogs and cats. In addition, her closest neighbour kept pigs and horses. It is no wonder that María José became a veterinarian! She graduated in 2004 from Valdivia, one of the best vet schools in the country. Her studies included a scholarship in 2003 to the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she enjoyed three semesters taking courses and getting clinical practice experience. This was not only an excellent opportunity to gain more technical knowledge, but also a chance to improve her English and discover different ways of doing things. In March 2005, María José joined the Technical Assistance Team of the Aquatic Animal Health Division in Intervet Chile. She is responsible for all the logistical and technical assistance to various customers, including everything from taking care of all the practical issues related to the delivery of products (from the company’s cool storage area to the farm facility) to ensuring the vaccination procedure is carried out to a high quality in each fish population of each of her client farms. With all the passion and enthusiasm provided by her youth and her upbringing, she has already shown that she is a very valued member of the Chilean “aqua” team.

Juan Pablo López Clasing was born 33 years ago in Valdivia City in Chile. He attended the Instituto Salesiano de Valdivia before moving on to the Universidad Austral de Chile where he qualified as a veterinarian in 1997.  He worked from 1997 to 2000 with Aquatic Health Chile Ltda., both in Puerto Montt and Puerto Aysén.  Subsequently, he moved to Landcatch Chile Ltda. in Puerto Montt where he remained until joining the Technical Assistance Team of the Aquatic Animal Health Division of Intervet Chile on April 15, 2004.  Juan Pablo has the same responsibilities as María José (above) for his customers.  As well as enthusiasm, Juan Pablo brings lots of practical experience and knowledge to the “aqua team” of Intervet Chile. He is married with one child. When not in the office, visiting customers or with his family, Juan Pablo enjoys tennis and spinning.
