New fish vaccines for the asian market

30 September 2005

Intervet takes up the challenge of aquatic animal disease control, with new fish vaccines for the Asian market.

Fish farming presents a well-known dichotomy. Although profits are more lucrative than in other commercial farming activity, tackling aquatic animal diseases is a costly affair where failing to do so could land producers in dire financial straits.
With awareness of food safety growing and antibiotic use on a decline, vaccination has been viewed as an increasingly important tool for dealing with animal disease problems. Research on fish vaccines, currently in the early stages compared with that for land animals, is nonetheless a growing focus for Intervet, a company that is hardly a newcomer to the field of animal vaccines.
